Scrap Blog of the Week (15)

Scrapability’s Scrap Blog of the Week -Week 15 2006 : Diary of Collage Artist Claudine Hellmuth

front_5.jpgMany mixed media artists and scrapbookers are aware of Claudine Hellmuth’s work, particularly as the author of two top selling books on Collage, The Collage Discovery Workshop and her followup - Collage Discovery Workshop : Beyond the Unexpected. It is this second book that saw the establishment and sharing of techniques for her Poppets, a series of collage people created with photocopied heads, and patterned paper dresses, with hand-drawn limbs and accents. These poppets are now a recognisable collage element in their own right.
Claudine shares her techniques willingly, and you can find these in the books mentioned, her own website, and freely through her blog, which I am nominating as Scrap Blog of the Week. As I write this, I am also listening to one of Claudine (and husband’s) podcasts which are available from this blog. These podcasts are called the Quick Collage Podcast, and we get to listen as Claudine’s husband offers her a challenge theme and she must create the collage within 20 minutes. Readers are also asked to join in, create a collage to the theme and send in the collage. Podcast # 2 (on taste) has a flickr gallery of reader entries on the theme also. It’s extremely interesting to listen into the creative process shared by such a successful collage artist.
By the way, Claudine’s poppets are now available as a scrapbook range also, available through Lazar Studios.
